The family deals with losing their home and farm. Young Michael looks at the bright side of life as a child's eyes can see hope even in the toughest of times. Chapters include drunken pigs, a rattlesnake sandwich, the ugliest - yet most loyal dog - in the world, a sink hole that causes a child to disappear and more. Each chapter stands alone in terms of readability. A teacher can read one chapter or more and hold the interest of the class. Yet all connect wonderfully into a plot that will make readers laugh and cry. The book has been field tested with popular appeal in schools across Illinois. Public readings at Barnes and Noble Bookstore and in other public forums have shown that the book may have wider appeal than for only schools.
