Bear and Pig Go into Business

One day Pig and Bear were walking through the market.  They watched people happily buying fresh vegetables to cook for their families.  Bear saw vendors laying out fresh fish to sell and chopping up different cuts of meat.  Pig did not like that part of the market.  Then both smeeled the most wonderful aroma... fresh baked cakes and warm pies straight from the oven.

At that moment they both decided to go into business.  "We'll make tons of money," they thought.  "I know the perfest thing to sell!" they both shouted at the same time.

"Cookies," said Pig.

"Donuts," stated Bear.

"Cookies - Donuts - Cookies - Donuts," they echoed back and forth.  Then the two went home to begin baking to take cookies AND donuts to the market the next day.  They prepared the cookie dough and the donut mix that night.  But they waited until early the next morning to bake them.  Everything needed to be fresh at the market to get the best price.

Very early in the morning, Pig woke up and baked a huge basketful of cookies to sell at the market.  Bear fried enough donuts to fill another basked.  Then they left for the market[lace long before any customers arrived.  They found a good spot to sell their products.  Just as they were sitting their baskets down Pig found a nickel on the ground.  "Business is off to a great start," he thought.  Then he had another thought.  It was a little bit chilly, and a warm donut sounded really good to pig, and Pig had a nickel already.  "How much is a donut?" asked Pig.

"For you?" responded Bear. "Only a Nickel!"  Pig quickly ran over and gave Bear the nickel and picked out a warm delicious donut.

"This is so good," exclaimed Pig. He groaned in delight.

This was too much for Bear.  He war hungry, and watching Pig eat did not help the hunger stop.  In fact, it made it worse.  "How about giving me a cookie for a nickel?" asked Bear.

"Absolutely," said Pig.  Pig let Bear pick out a cookie. and of course Bear took the biggest one.  Bear gave the nickel to Pig.  "My second nickel of the day," thought Pig,  Then he rushed over to Bear's stand and bought another donut.

For the next hour Pig and Bear kept wunning back and forth spending the same nickel over and over.  Before the first customer had even arrived Pig had sold every cookie, and Bear had sold every donut.

With their products all sold they decided to count up all their profits.  "This is strange," said the Bear.  "I sold all my donuts, but I only have a nickel.

"And I don't have any money at all," cried Pig.

Together they said, "We sold all our products, but we only made a nickel between us.   This doesn't seem right."

Are you a good enough business person to know why their business failed?
